AKP statement on 'retirees': A fairer system is needed

AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler made important statements regarding claims about the restructuring of the pension system, the reduction of weekly working hours, and the direct referral of certain cases to the Court of Cassation without going through the appellate court.

Abdullah Güler stated that the pension system must be transformed into a fair, balanced, and sustainable structure.

GLOBAL EXAMPLES SHOULD BE TAKEN AS A BASIS

Evaluating the pension system, Abdullah Güler pointed out the importance of taking the practices of developed countries into account. Güler said, "In developed countries, three headings stand out in retirement: premium amount, payment duration, and age. We must also build a fairer and more sustainable system by taking these elements as a basis." Reminding that the lowest pension is 12,500 liras with the support of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Güler stated that this support needs to be made sustainable.

WEEKLY WORKING HOURS

Güler announced that there is no work underway to reduce weekly working hours in the public and private sectors. He said, "With the pandemic, more flexible working models are being proposed in some sectors, but there is no change on our agenda regarding general working hours."

CLARIFICATION ON CLAIMS REGARDING FILING CASES TO THE COURT OF CASSATION

Responding to claims that some criminal files should be evaluated directly by the Court of Cassation without going to the appellate court, Güler said, "We do not have any legislative work on this matter. However, there are some proposals to accelerate judicial proceedings. Work will be done on these."

Güler emphasized that the defendant's right to defense must not be violated while accelerating judicial processes. He added, "There is no proposal in this direction for now, but there are demands coming from the legal community."
