Successive statements from AKP on Dilruba K: 'Irresponsible, ignorant, mindless'

Following the release of Dilruba K., statements from the AKP front continue to arrive. Most recently, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated in a post on his social media account that freedom of thought does not mean the freedom to use hate speech or insult broad segments of society.

'LET US NOT PROTECT HATE SPEECH'

Yılmaz stated that democratic political standards do not approve of people being cursed at or openly insulted, adding, "Protecting hate speech under the guise of freedom of thought is also a major blow to true freedom of thought."

Emphasizing that there are many areas where political competition can take place, Yılmaz stated that the political institution must succeed in standing in unity against hate speech. In this context, he said that one must stand against the socially damaging effects of hate speech.

ÖMER ÇELİK: 'COMPLETE MINDLESSNESS'

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, in a post on his social media account, had used the following expressions: "It is never acceptable for a person who insults our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Presidential office, and our citizens to be hosted in the protocol, applauded, and furthermore rewarded by the CHP Chairman."

Stating, "Insulting the founder of our state Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and our citizens who have dedicated themselves to different political parties is not freedom of thought," Çelik noted the following:

"Provocative statements containing insults and incitement are only the product of a primitive hatred and a hate politics that is an enemy of democracy. We will continue to fight against these hate speeches on the grounds of democratic politics and law in a definitive manner. It is never acceptable for a person who insults our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Presidential office, and our citizens to be hosted in the protocol, applauded, and furthermore rewarded by the CHP Chairman. The executives of a political party cannot be the patrons of hate and insult speech. Giving value to hate speech is complete mindlessness."

ÖZLEM ZENGİN HAD ALSO SPOKEN

AKP Group Deputy Chairperson Özlem Zengin was a guest on the program "Hakan Çelik'le Hafta Sonu" (Weekend with Hakan Çelik) broadcast on CNN Türk.

'HER STATEMENTS ARE IGNORANT...'

Making evaluations regarding the investigation into Dilruba Kayserilioğlu, who was arrested and later released due to her remarks in a street interview in İzmir, Özlem Zengin said, "The incident has two dimensions. One is legal, the other is political. My personal opinion is that she should be tried without arrest.

Her statements are ignorant, irresponsible... The judiciary will decide on the criminal sanction regarding this matter. She will go to her hearing, and a decision will be made regarding these expressions. None of the sentences she said express the truth. The expressions are impolite and inappropriate. What she said after she got out is even more irresponsible... She says, 'I have no regrets.' I would have expected her to say, 'I am sorry'," she said.

'I HAD NOT HEARD SUCH AN IGNORANT SPEECH FOR A LONG TIME'

AKP's Zengin had previously spoken to Armağan Çağlayan from Ekol TV and said, "I think she should be tried without arrest; it is likely that she will be released at the first hearing."

In her speech that day, Zengin stated that she found Dilruba K.'s statements ignorant and noted the following:

"I listened to her; I had not heard such an ignorant speech for a long time. Everything she said is wrong; we need to correct what she said one by one. She also has an arrogant attitude. Can someone file a complaint? Yes, they can, but she should be tried without arrest. There is a serious issue of tone. I would explain every single point to her one by one."
