CHP files application to HSK regarding the 'Fool Case': Change of duty location under scrutiny

The Republican People's Party (CHP) has taken action regarding the change of duty location for Judge Hüseyin Zengin in the case known publicly as the "fool case," which was opened against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on allegations of insulting members of the Supreme Election Council (YSK).

This move by the CHP came following remarks made by AKP IMM Group Spokesperson Faruk Gökkuş during a recent IMM Assembly session, where he stated, "I will also explain why we exiled him to Samsun." Gökkuş's remarks brought allegations of political interference in judicial appointments to the agenda and sparked a reaction within the CHP.

DECISION TO APPLY FROM CHP

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın and CHP High Disciplinary Board Chairman Turan Taşkın Özer have decided to apply to the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) regarding the matter. It was reported that in the application they will make to the HSK tomorrow, they will state that the change of Judge Hüseyin Zengin's duty location was unlawful and will request an examination and investigation into the members of the First Chamber of the HSK who made this decision.

With this application, the CHP emphasized that judicial appointments must be made in accordance with legislation and principles, stating that they defend the functioning of justice independently of politics.
