CHP reacts to 9th wave of operations targeting Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality

In the morning hours in Istanbul, the ninth wave of operations was carried out targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). Detention warrants were issued for 44 people, including Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and Yiğit Oğuz Duman, who serves as a consultant in the field of Human Resources for the İBB. Simultaneous searches were conducted at the suspects' homes.

"AN ATTEMPT TO DESIGN POLITICS"

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın reacted to the way the operation was conducted, stating that it was part of an effort to shape politics. Günaydın said, "The fact that there is no end to the waves targeting the İBB is nothing more than an attempt to design politics. Your plans to seize municipalities won by the will of the nation in 2014, 2019, and 2024 through operational methods will backfire on you."

"EVEN THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE IS UNCOMFORTABLE"

Claiming that the operations have caused discomfort even within the AKP, Günaydın stated, "Even the Minister of Justice is uncomfortable with the way the operations are being conducted. While ruling party municipalities, which have been associated with corruption in the past and present, remain untouched among the 1,400 existing municipalities in Turkey, these relentless waves targeting the İBB damage the sense of justice."

Recalling the "İBB Stock Market" allegations that emerged in recent days, Günaydın said, "Ceremonies that embarrass politics are being held with the promise that if mayors are threatened and change parties, they will be exempt from operations. Despite the MHP wing's insistence on completing the files quickly, there is a significant group within the AKP that finds these operations wrong both legally and politically."
