Yeni Parti Chairman Özgür Özel is taking legal action due to the allegations Emir Sarıgül has leveled against him. It has been reported that Özel's lawyers will file a criminal complaint with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Sarıgül for the crime of "slander."
The legal process will not be limited to a request for a criminal investigation; it was stated that Özel will also file a lawsuit against Sarıgül for 1 million TL in non-pecuniary damages on the grounds of an attack on his personal rights.
Speaking to the ANKA News Agency, Yeni Parti sources argued that the allegations in question are completely baseless. The sources claimed that directing statements made by Sarıgül within the scope of a different investigation toward Özel is a "clear fabrication."
Whoever makes, causes to be made, or publishes this slander is part of a character assassination. We will take all necessary steps to ensure that whoever is behind this dirty organization, in which such slanders are leveled against the leader of the main opposition party, is held accountable.
Party sources also stated that any potential proceeds from the compensation lawsuit will be donated to organizations working for the public good.
