The 'opening' process did not sit well with the People's Alliance: A major shock for the ruling front!
Following the visits by AKP, MHP, and DEM Party delegations to PKK terrorist organization leader Öcalan in İmralı, public support for the 'opening' process has significantly declined. The released poll results have caused a major shock within the ruling front. Here are the details...
Following the visit of a delegation consisting of members from the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party to PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı Island, public support for the 'opening' process has declined significantly, according to reports from the parliamentary commission in Istanbul.
In public opinion polls, the support rate, which was previously around 60-65 percent, showed a remarkable drop immediately after the visit.
Nefes columnist Nuray Babacan addressed the astonishment within the ruling front regarding the 'opening' process and the decline reflected in the polls in her column. According to Babacan, polls conducted after the visit showed that public support for the process had decreased significantly.
14 PERCENT DROP IN SUPPORT FOR THE 'OPENING' PROCESS
A poll conducted in December by a research company close to the government revealed that support for the process decreased by 14 percent following the İmralı visit.
The poll results stunned government officials. It was observed that public reaction against the process increased significantly following the visit.
The CHP had decided not to participate in the İmralı visit. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated that this decision was based on social research, confirming the accuracy of the poll results.
Babacan emphasized that Özgür Özel's remarks, such as "not going to İmralı was a very correct decision," align with the poll results.
According to Babacan's article, developments in Syria have made the process even more complex. Although the ruling wing maintains the view that the 'opening' process will yield positive results and that public support will increase again, news coming from Syria makes this optimism difficult.
Furthermore, doubts regarding Abdullah Öcalan's influence over the terrorist organization are raising questions about the future of the process.
