İmamoğlu’s response to Gürlek on live broadcast: 'If you have the courage...'
The imprisoned IMM Mayor has responded to remarks made by Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, who recalled a previous call for the IMM trial to be broadcast live. İmamoğlu stated, "We stand by what we said on the first day. Do not wait at all."
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made assessments regarding the trial of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu during a television program he attended.
Arguing that courts are not political arenas, Gürlek stated, "Courts are not political arenas. You cannot put on a political show there. Here, the court is asking questions regarding the actions attributed to Ekrem İmamoğlu, and İmamoğlu is creating tension."
GÜRLEK RECALLS LIVE BROADCAST CALL
Gürlek also brought up the call made by İmamoğlu at the beginning of the IMM trial for the hearings to be broadcast live.
Gürlek said, "At the very beginning, when this case was opened, there was a discourse like, 'Let this trial be broadcast live, we are confident in ourselves.' I would like to ask now whether Mr. Ekrem would still be of the same attitude."
“WE STAND BY WHAT WE SAID ON THE FIRST DAY”
Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently imprisoned in Silivri, responded to Gürlek’s statements via social media.
In a post made from the “Presidential Candidate Office” account, İmamoğlu stated that they stand by their previous calls and used the following expressions:
“We stand by what we said on the first day. Do not wait at all. If you have the courage, broadcast the hearings live.”
