Following its establishment process, the YENİ Party is finalizing its calendar for the primary election for party leader and charter amendments as it prepares for its first convention. Before the convention to be held on November 14-15, the party will convene its founders' board and Central Executive Board to evaluate regulations regarding its management structure.
The YENİ Party plans to hold a primary election for party leader this weekend with the participation of approximately 800,000 members. On November 8, more than 3,000 ballot boxes will be set up across Turkey. As in the provincial presidency elections, those who became party members by the specified date will be able to vote at the ballot boxes placed in different districts.
Party staff view the primary election as an important indicator of the “new politics” discourse. Stating that ballot boxes will be set up for the first time for members to determine a party's leader through a vote to be held this weekend, the staff express the view that, “All party administrators, from the district chair to the party leader, will have been elected by the discretion of its members.”
GOAL OF BROADER REPRESENTATION IN THE PARTY ASSEMBLY
Following the primary election, YENİ Party leader Özgür Özel is expected to convene both the founders' board and the Central Executive Board (MYK) on Monday. One of the main agendas of the meetings will be the final amendments to be made to the charter before the convention.
It is on the agenda to increase the number of members of the Party Assembly, which currently consists of 80 members, to over 100. Furthermore, it is aimed to include participants from different professional groups, unions, and well-known names in their fields, rather than the current structure consisting only of members of parliament. With these changes, it is intended to strengthen a more inclusive and participatory management approach within the party.
The new organizational model that the party management is working on is also expected to become more visible with the convention process. It is planned that representatives from teachers, retirees, farmers, unionists, youth, women's organizations, the disabled, and different professional groups will take part in provincial, district, and neighborhood assemblies. This structure is envisioned to be supported by working groups that will explain the party's solution proposals for Turkey at the local level.
It is also expected that the deputy chairmanships will be restructured after the convention. It is planned to expand the deputy chairmanships, which currently focus mainly on technical tasks, to cover areas such as health, education, foreign policy, and working life. It is stated that structures similar to the working groups and advisory boards that Özel previously established for election promises during his time at the CHP could also be re-established under these chairmanships.
The slogan of the convention that the YENİ Party will organize at the Ankara Atatürk Sports Hall has been determined as “Turkey is renewing itself.” It is expected that the themes of “establishment,” “new politics,” and “power” will be highlighted at the convention, and the party's new songs will also be introduced for the first time.
