Özgür Özel emphasizes early elections

The second day of the CHP Second Century Change Congress began with significant statements from CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. Speaking at the congress, Özel shared his views and the party's strategies regarding early elections.

Özgür Özel stated that the CHP came in first in the March 31 elections, saying, “Everyone thinks that power is our right. There is nothing more natural than all segments of society wanting an early election. The only way out for the AK Party was to fail to field candidates against our mayors. They wanted to polarize and create tension, and they tried to define the process through that.”

Addressing some strategic mistakes during the election process, Özel said, “We told the voters, ‘our candidates are local election candidates.’ This is not a general election; they should not try to turn it into a general election atmosphere. The vote here is a yellow card, not a red card. We will not exploit this.”

CALL FOR EARLY ELECTIONS

Touching upon expectations for an early election, Özel said, “Expectations in society for an early election the next day were around 25 percent, but according to poll results, this rate has exceeded 50 percent. The CHP's will is absolute, and preparations must be complete.”

THE ISSUE OF ERDOĞAN'S RE-ELECTION

Özgür Özel also addressed the possibility of current President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan running in an early election, stating, “In the last term, Erdoğan could not run on his own, but his candidacy was accepted upon application to the YSK (Supreme Election Council).” He further added, “If there is no early election, Erdoğan cannot run, but if an early election is held according to the constitution, Erdoğan can run once more.”

THIS NATION CANNOT ENDURE 5 YEARS

“This nation does not have the strength to endure 5 years, and we do not have the patience to wait 4 more years for power. The nation is now waiting for the CHP to come to power,” said Özel, emphasizing that the CHP is ready for a possible election to be held in November next year.

Özgür Özel continued his remarks at the congress as follows:

“The midpoint of Erdoğan’s 5-year term will be in November next year. If Erdoğan says 'I trust myself,' we are ready to hold an early election and put an end to this 22-year government. Let us make the decision today or 8 months from now. If an election is held in November next year, the CHP is here and the result will not change. The CHP is Turkey's leading party, and every unanswered question is an escape from the nation. Whoever trusts their candidacy should face us.”
