Özgür Özel speaks from Silivri: Explains the purpose of the operations against CHP

Members of the CHP Adana Youth Branch walked hundreds of kilometers to reach the front of Silivri Prison to support the imprisoned Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, and Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel welcomed the youth in front of the prison and described the march as "one of the greatest protest marches in world political history."

SYMBOLS THAT WILL TAKE THEIR PLACE IN THE HISTORY OF DEMOCRACY

Özel stated that the statements made by the youth in front of the prison and the t-shirts they wore would be placed in the CHP Museum. Özel expressed that the march and the press statements would be recorded in the history of Turkish democracy.

Özel stated that Karalar and the other CHP mayors are being held in prison "unlawfully and tyrannically." He conveyed that the allegations directed at Karalar are based on the past AKP era, that the contracts were already ongoing, and that there is no concrete evidence. Özel noted that the mayors were brought to Silivri because the judges and prosecutors in Adana did not perform their duties in certain files.

DIFFERENT TREATMENT FOR MHP AND CHP

Özel emphasized that no investigations were opened into other municipalities working with the same individuals, and that proceedings were carried out only against CHP municipalities. He stated that while files in MHP-run municipalities are handled locally, CHP mayors are brought to Silivri.

JUDICIAL PROCESS HAS BECOME POLITICIZED

Özel stated that the judicial process has become politicized, adding that President Erdoğan has launched attacks against the CHP and that the ultimate goal is for Erdoğan to maintain his power.

In their statement in front of the prison, the youth expressed that they demand justice and freedom for the imprisoned mayors. The statement expressed that depriving the mayors of their freedom by ignoring the will of the people is a blow to the norms of a state of law. The youth demanded that the mayors be released immediately and that the trials be held in Adana.
