Sinem Dedetaş responds to 'twerk' allegations! Will she run for IMM Mayor?

Last month, allegations that women were given "twerk" training by a speaker brought from Africa during the 7th Bicycle Women's Workshop held under the roof of Üsküdar Municipality made headlines; journalist Fuat Uğur, while mentioning that the municipality was delaying salary payments, had said, "Sinem Dedetaş should raise money by dancing twerk on stage to pay the salaries of Üsküdar Municipality employees."

FUAT UĞUR'S "TWERK" ADVICE DREW REACTION

While journalist Fuat Uğur, who targeted Sinem Dedetaş, became the focus of reactions with his post, many social media users and especially the opposition front met these words of Uğur with harsh reactions.

SİNEM DEDETAŞ RESPONDED TO THE ALLEGATIONS

CHP Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, who was a guest on journalist Fatih Altaylı's YouTube program, explained the background of the events while speaking about the 'twerk' controversies.

Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş said the following in her statement to Altaylı:

"We are in Üsküdar. We are constantly keeping our finger on the pulse of our voters. We know what kind of structure we serve. This is neither the place nor the time for such a situation in Üsküdar. We are under such a squeeze. We have reached the point of defending that we did not do things we did not do. I think of this as madness. The Zincirkıran Women's Association requested a venue from us for International Women's Day on March 8. I only got to know them after this incident.

Applications are evaluated by our colleagues. If the venue is available and the content is appropriate, it is evaluated. I had no knowledge of this association or its activities until this venue was provided and this news broke. Our colleagues checked the content; it is an association predominantly composed of women organizing workshops to promote bicycle usage. They had also invited an instructor.

There are criticisms based on both racism and sexism. I have difficulty speaking, but they invited a dancer."

"THE SUBJECT IS ENTIRELY BICYCLES"

She explained it on her own because the structure of Brazil and Istanbul are similar in terms of cycling. She is having them do warm-up exercises; the subject is entirely bicycles.

"THERE IS NO DANCE OR DANCER! THE MUNICIPALITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT"

There is no dance here. There is no dancer brought by the municipality. There is no money spent, the municipality has nothing to do with it. This is nothing more than an attempt to set the agenda. They are slandering and lying. We are filing a lawsuit."

WILL SHE RUN FOR IMM MAYOR?

Dedetaş also responded to the question, "Will you run for IMM Mayor after İmamoğlu?":

"I am very happy that people associate me with it. However, we do not have such a plan or thought. When people associate me with it, they think as if there is a source coming from me, but we took over the Üsküdar Municipality. We have been here for only a year. We really have problems and issues that we need to restructure. People elected me for this duty. So, I don't think they would say they want to see me in another position within a year. I wouldn't associate that with myself either. Therefore, my place is where I am right now. I have neither a dream nor a vision for the next position. I truly see this as a national issue. There is no such thing as a 'next step' for me. I want to create and leave behind a happy and peaceful Üsküdar. Let's achieve this first, then we will all see the next process together."
