The calendar is set: Countdown to YENİ Party's first grand congress

YENİ Party continues its preparations for its 1st Ordinary Congress, which will be held on November 14-15. The party, which began operations on May 21 as Turkey's 189th political party, will determine its governing bodies at its first grand congress.

As part of the congress calendar, YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel will participate in a primary election in 81 provinces on November 8 to be elected chairman by the votes of the members. Those who became party members by November 5 will be eligible to vote in this primary.

Following the process that began on August 26, congress delegates were determined through primary elections and conventions held in districts and provinces. With the decision taken at the Party Assembly meeting on October 28, it was finalized that the congress would be held on November 14-15.

During the two-day congress, the Congress Presidential Board will be elected first. Following this, Özgür Özel is expected to address the party members. More than 1,000 delegates will head to the polls to determine the 80-member Party Assembly and the 15-member High Disciplinary Board, in addition to the party leader.

CANDIDACY AND LIST PROCESS

According to the YENİ Party charter, a candidacy for party leader requires a written application to the Congress Presidential Board by at least 5 percent of the total number of delegates. The party leader is elected by secret ballot and by an absolute majority of the total number of members. If no result is obtained in the first two rounds of voting, the candidate who receives the most votes in the third round is considered elected.

For candidacy to the Party Assembly, the signature of 10 delegates is required. Although the charter stipulates an open list as the rule for Party Assembly and High Disciplinary Board elections, a block list method can be adopted upon the written proposal of one-tenth of the total number of congress members. In the congress where Özgür Özel will be the sole candidate, the block list option is being considered.

The congress is planned to be held at the Ankara Arena Sports Hall. While preparations regarding sound, lighting, and stage arrangements continue at the venue, work is also underway for the transportation and accommodation of the delegates. Accreditation will be applied for members of the press; spectators and representatives of other political parties will also be invited to the congress.

In accordance with the Law on Political Parties, the congress will be held under the supervision and inspection of the Supreme Election Council. Objections to the results can be made within two days. Following the congress, the elected party leader, Party Assembly, and High Disciplinary Board members are expected to visit Anıtkabir on Saturday, November 21, and the members of the Central Executive Board are expected to be determined at the Party Assembly meeting to be held afterward.
