Tuncay Özkan responds to Erdoğan: 'I will never forget this for the rest of my life'

Tuncay Özkan responds to Erdoğan: 'I will never forget this for the rest of my life'

Republican People's Party (CHP) İzmir MP Tuncay Özkan was criticized by AKP members and had an investigation launched against him for using the term "snob" (züppe) in reference to President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In a statement to Yavuz Oğhan from Gazete Pencere, Özkan stated that the expressions he used were the same as those used by President Erdoğan.

HE REMINDED HIM OF ERDOĞAN'S OWN WORDS

Referring to Erdoğan's remarks, "An elitism addicted to ostentation has emerged, enjoying themselves with the people's money in European capitals," Özkan said, "I didn't say anything different; I am saying what he said. To say 'addicted to ostentation, elitist' is to say 'snob'."

The CHP MP also spoke about AKP Elazığ MP Mahmut Rıdvan Nazırlı, who had sworn at him. Stating that this incident saddened him deeply, Özkan said, "You cannot imagine how my heart is bleeding. I will never forget this for the rest of my life. We will definitely talk to him."

Emphasizing that he is not worried about the investigation launched against him, Tuncay Özkan used the following expressions:

“'Snob' is not an insult. The investigation will go nowhere; if it does, so be it, we are used to it,” said Özkan, adding that he had not received any criticism from the CHP Headquarters on this matter and had not yet held a meeting with the management. Özkan added, "I am not in Ankara; we will talk when I return. I don't think there will be a problem."

In his speech in Ahlat, President Erdoğan targeted CHP municipalities, saying, "Although they promised on the campaign trail, they kicked thousands of municipal workers out as soon as they arrived. Behind the mask of populism, an elitism addicted to ostentation has emerged, enjoying themselves with the people's money in European capitals."

CHP İzmir MP Tuncay Özkan made the following post on his social media account in response to these words by Erdoğan:

Addressing President Erdoğan, whom he criticized over the terms "addicted to ostentation, elitists," he wrote: "You snob, you! You sit in the palace, sit on the throne, let dollars and billions be your toys, let wastefulness and extravagance be your companions, let the rich be your friends—are you calling us 'addicted to ostentation'? You have 13 planes. You have a life of luxury. You have convoys full of cars at home and abroad. In 22 years, you have made the people poor and turned into the party of the rich. You have party members who mock the poor. You have dollar billionaires. The dungeons are ours, the palaces are yours; we are the ostentatious ones, is that so? Are you jealous? You palace snob, you! We want early elections. I challenge you!"
