Ümit Özdağ announces: Five party leaders to hold a joint meeting on Saturday
Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ has announced that he will meet with four other party leaders on Saturday.
Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) Chairman Ümit Özdağ announced at a press conference held at his party's headquarters that they will hold a joint meeting with four political party leaders on Saturday.
Özdağ stated that he had invited Independent Turkey Party (BTP) Chairman Hüseyin Baş, Justice Party (AP) Chairman Vecdet Öz, National Path Party (MYP) Chairman Remzi Çayır, and Kutlu Party Chairman Yusuf Halaçoğlu. Regarding the meeting, he used the phrase, "The nation wants this."
Speaking about the agenda of the meeting, Özdağ stated that they would evaluate the current situation in Turkey with leaders who are committed to the first four articles of the Constitution and the founding philosophy of the Republic. Özdağ argued that opposing cooperation within the opposition would serve the scenario desired by the ruling power.
Özdağ also responded to the remarks made by Good Party (İYİ Parti) Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, who had addressed those who left the Good Party to form different parties by saying, "Since you have left, come back, but come without bargaining and without ulterior motives."
"I do have phone conversations with Mr. Müsavat Dervişoğlu from time to time, and I believe we will continue these conversations in the coming period. And I do not need to talk to Mr. Müsavat through the media. I do not think he needs to either."
Özdağ stated that Dervişoğlu could make an assessment at a time he deems appropriate, noting that this could be "today, tomorrow, or three months from now."
The Victory Party, which was part of the ATA Alliance in the 2023 general elections, had the Justice Party, the Homeland Party (Ülkem Partisi), and the Turkey Alliance Party among its alliance partners at that time. The alliance's presidential candidate, Sinan Oğan, received 5.17 percent of the vote. Among the names invited by Özdağ to Saturday's meeting, only the Justice Party is a former component of the ATA Alliance.
