Up to 5 years in prison sought for 'Wake up Kayseri' post
An indictment has been prepared seeking up to 5 years in prison for a 22-year-old youth in Kayseri on charges of "publicly inciting to commit a crime" after they made a social media post regarding protests for Ekrem İmamoğlu, in which they wrote, "Wake up Kayseri."
Following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu on March 19 and his subsequent arrest on March 23, widespread protests were held across the country.
"WAKE UP KAYSERI WAKE UP"
S.K. (22) also made a post on their personal X account following İmamoğlu's detention, stating, "There is no revolution without collective struggle. Where are you, people of Kayseri? You haven't made a sound for 2 days. Your rights are being usurped, don't you realize? Wake up Kayseri, wake up."
S.K. also shared a photo on their social media account featuring the text "There is no salvation alone" with the note, "I will hold this at the protest in Kayseri."

"DETAINED"
S.K., against whom the Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation following these posts, was detained. In their statement, S.K. briefly stated that their posts did not contain any criminal elements and was subsequently released.
UP TO 5 YEARS IN PRISON SOUGHT
According to information obtained by an ANKA reporter, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has prepared an indictment against S.K. on charges of "publicly inciting to commit a crime."
The indictment cited a decision by the 8th Chamber of the Court of Cassation and noted the following:
"In this concrete case, it is understood that the suspect publicly incited to commit a crime in a post made openly to everyone, that the suspect's post exceeded the limits of freedom of expression, that the suspect incited to commit a crime publicly via their social media X account, that the act constitutes the crime of 'incitement to commit a crime,' that the alleged crime is proven by the consistent cyber expertise report and the suspect's own admission, and that there is sufficient suspicion to issue an indictment regarding the suspect having committed the alleged crimes."
If the indictment is accepted, S.K. will appear before a judge facing a request for a prison sentence ranging from 6 months to 5 years.
