Özgür Özel shares post regarding pension increase
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel shared a video on his social media account and made statements following the increase of SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees' pensions from 42.6 percent to 49.25 percent.
Evaluating the raise in the video he shared, Özgür Özel stated, "We will continue to speak up and make the voices of retirees heard until the lowest pension is equalized to the minimum wage."
An additional 5 percent increase had been applied to SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, raising pensions from 37.57 percent to 42.6 percent. As reactions from retirees to this rate of increase followed one another, Minister of Labor and Social Security Işıkhan made a new statement and announced, "We are increasing the raise in the pensions of our SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees to 49.25 percent as of January."
REACTION FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL
Özgür Özel, who made a post following this announcement of the increase and stated that the lowest pension should be at the level of the minimum wage, said, "We are at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The Assembly is now active, there is news.
In the raise given to retirees, the raise given to Bağ-Kur and SSK retirees will be brought up to the rate of the raise given to Emekli Sandığı (Retirement Fund) retirees. That is, it will go up to 49.25 percent.
An increase of around 7 percent is foreseen, and this is again being called an improvement. We say that the lowest pension should not be 10 thousand liras, it should be raised to the level of the minimum wage, to 17 thousand liras," he said.
Stating, "What they are saying corresponds to a raise of 450 liras for retirees, for example, for a retiree receiving a 10 thousand lira pension," Özel said, "They are unaware that 1 kilo of meat is more expensive than 450 liras.
And the improvement they say they are trying to make is not an improvement. They are only making a token improvement due to the reactions that we have kept on the agenda and that the retirees have embraced. We will continue to speak up and make the voices of retirees heard until the lowest pension is equalized to the minimum wage," he expressed.
