Credit card commission for vehicle inspection is being abolished! The date has been set

The additional service fee charged to those who pay for vehicle inspection fees with a credit card has been brought to the Parliament's agenda. In his response to a parliamentary question from Adana MP Ayhan Barut, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu provided information regarding the current practice and the regulation prepared for the period after 2027.

TÜVTÜRK IS THE SOLE AUTHORITY FOR VEHICLE INSPECTION

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, Uraloğlu's response recalled that a 20-year concession agreement was signed between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Privatization Administration, and TÜVTÜRK on August 15, 2007. It was stated that within the scope of this agreement, TÜVTÜRK was authorized to carry out vehicle inspection services on behalf of the ministry, and that it is not possible for any other natural or legal person to open a vehicle inspection station under the current regulation.

WHO DETERMINES VEHICLE INSPECTION FEES?

In the response, it was stated that the authority to determine vehicle inspection fees lies with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and that the procedures and transactions regarding the fees are also carried out by this ministry. It was emphasized that there is no explicit provision in the Highway Traffic Law regarding which payment method should be used to collect inspection fees.

ADDITIONAL SERVICE FEE PRACTICE FOR CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS

The Ministry stated that payments have been accepted in cash since the date the contract began, and that payment by credit card is left to the preference of vehicle owners. The response argued that before the credit card payment option is used, information is provided both at the inspection stations and on TÜVTÜRK's website that a payment service fee will be charged.

TÜVTÜRK CONTRACT EXPIRES IN 2027

Stating that the current concession agreement will expire on August 15, 2027, Uraloğlu announced that a provision regarding credit card payments has been added to the tender specifications prepared for the new period.

CREDIT CARD COMMISSION WILL NOT BE PASSED ON TO VEHICLE OWNERS IN THE NEW PERIOD

Accordingly, it is envisaged that vehicle inspection fees will be collected by credit card without passing the commission cost on to the people benefiting from the service.
