Amazon makes its decision regarding the Alexa division

In a statement from Amazon, it was noted that the progress made with Alexa is encouraging, and that customers interact with Alexa tens of millions of times every hour across more than half a billion devices in their homes.

Pointing to investments in generative artificial intelligence, the statement noted that some of the company's efforts are being shifted in line with business priorities and the issues that customers care about.

The statement expressed that these changes resulted in the discontinuation of some initiatives and the termination of some employees' roles, and thanked the laid-off employees for their contributions.

Emphasizing that while this decision was difficult to make, there is optimism regarding the future of Alexa, the statement said, "Alexa continues to be an important part of our business as we move forward, and we will continue to invest and innovate to realize our vision."

Reports in the US press stated that the number of people laid off in Amazon's Alexa unit is "a few hundred."

Earlier this week, it was also reported that more than 180 people were laid off in Amazon's gaming unit and that some departments were closed.
