Google Arts and Culture Turkey Platform launched

Speaking at the platform's launch event, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that they view the Google Arts and Culture Turkey Platform as an important global tool for promoting Turkey to the world, adding, "It was, of course, unthinkable for a country as rich in culture and cuisine as Turkey not to be featured on this highly significant global platform. For this reason, I would like to thank the Google Arts and Culture team and Google Turkey for their support and collaboration in bringing this project to life."

Ersoy pointed out that the content on the platform would contribute to achieving Turkey's tourism goals, emphasizing that it would specifically support the objective of attracting high-quality tourists, increasing product diversity, and promoting the rich cultural and historical heritage offered by each of the 81 provinces beyond Turkey's popular tourist destinations.

Noting that Turkey possesses a heritage that is quite difficult to convey in a single stroke due to its historical depth and gastronomic richness, Ersoy said, "For this reason, I hope that the Google Arts and Culture Turkey Platform will continue to grow in the coming period by continuing to feature active, rich, and new content."

OVER 70 DIGITAL STORIES, 20 MUSEUMS, AND MUCH MORE

Minister Ersoy mentioned that in addition to Turkey's rich culinary culture, the platform also provides access to museums and archaeological sites, stating the following:

"In addition to more than 70 digital stories, the Google Arts and Culture Platform for Turkey includes a series consisting of 10 videos along with 20 museums and archaeological sites. Among the more than 20 museums and archaeological sites supporting the project are our heritage sites that have a place in world cultural memory, such as Nemrut, Göreme, and Göbeklitepe, which are on the UNESCO list, as well as the Ahlat Seljuk Cemetery, which holds an important place in the ancient history of Anatolia. On the other hand, as we prepare to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Republic, I am particularly happy that a total of 20 of our museums and archaeological sites, led by the Republic Museum, have been included in this project, especially through the use of 'Street View' technology. Thanks to Street View technology, I feel a special excitement about introducing the Galata Mevlevi House, founded in 1491 and one of the most important legacies of Ottoman Civilization in Beyoğlu, to the whole world; opening the doors of the Tunceli Museum, which was selected as one of the 3 best museums in Europe, to visitors digitally; and presenting our important museums, such as the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations and the Antalya Museum, to visitors from all over the world."

Stating that they see the platform as an opportunity for the promotion and branding of prominent elements of Turkish cuisine abroad, beyond just museums and archaeological sites, Ersoy said, "Digital content featuring dozens of themes, from Turkish breakfast to tea, from Turkish coffee to classic Turkish cuisine delicacies, will take its place on the Google Arts and Culture Turkey Platform that we are launching today, and thus, another innovative page will be opened for Turkish cuisine to meet the whole world."

Mehmet Nuri Ersoy highlighted that historian and academician Bettany Hughes, who prepares documentaries about Turkey for the BBC, also took part in the project with a series consisting of 10 videos.

Google Turkey Country Director Mehmet Keteloğlu stated that they have been working for Turkey's secure digitalization since Google began operations in Turkey in 2006, adding:

"We are working hard so that institutions, businesses, and individuals can benefit from the opportunities brought by digital transformation and for the growth of the digital economy. The tourism sector, which is one of the most important locomotives of our country's economy, is also supported by the products and services we offer."
