Samsung smartwatches to be able to detect sleep apnea

Like Apple, Samsung is focusing on the health aspect of its smartwatches. As recently revealed, the new feature being developed will detect a user's sleep apnea and help with its treatment.

According to the statement made directly on the company's website, it will be possible to determine whether Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 6 users are experiencing sleep apnea.

FEATURE TO BE OFFERED TO USERS IN 2024

The mentioned feature will first be offered to smartwatch users in South Korea, and will subsequently reach users in other designated countries.

The feature will benefit the user through the bioactive sensor located in the smartwatches. While the user is sleeping, measurements will be taken based on how the oxygen level in the blood changes. The sensor, which will detect how many times the person's breathing is interrupted while sleeping, will deliver the collected data to the user. Here, 5-15 respiratory interruptions will be classified as mild, 15-30 times as moderate, and 30 or more as severe.

The feature is expected to be offered starting from 2024.
