Sony unveils mixed reality headset to rival Apple
Sony has unveiled its mixed reality headset. The company, which made the preliminary announcement, did not go into much detail regarding the device.
There are many players in the augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) space. Apple joined the corporate race with its mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro. Sony, as part of CES 2024, introduced a headset called PSVR2 that combines mixed reality and virtual reality.
As the name suggests, the device is focused on PlayStation and gaming, and it is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor.
The device, which offers 4K resolution on an OLED screen, also features cameras and sensors.
Stating that the device includes hand and ring controllers, Sony also notes that this product will allow designers to create content in a virtual environment.
The PSVR2 is expected to be released by the end of 2024.
Sony's previous announcement in the augmented and virtual reality space was the XREAL Air 2 Ultra. In addition to the price of this device, which was announced as 699 dollars, further features of the product, for which not many details were provided, are expected to be announced in the coming period.
