Jamie Carragher on Salah's transfer to Trabzonspor: The Turkish level is too low for him
Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher evaluated Mohamed Salah's transfer to Trabzonspor, stating that the star player is at a higher level.
Jamie Carragher, one of the prominent figures of Liverpool and English football, made striking assessments regarding Mohamed Salah's transfer to Trabzonspor. The former footballer argued that the Egyptian star still possesses the quality to play for top-tier European clubs.
Stating that he never believed Salah would go to Saudi Arabia, Carragher said that his choice of Turkey was surprising to him. The English commentator remarked, "I never believed he would go to Saudi Arabia. He is still too good a player for that. I think he could have easily played in Serie A. The Turkish level is a bit low for him."
While Carragher expressed that he particularly associated Salah with clubs like Milan or Juventus, he noted that financial conditions might have been a deciding factor in the transfer process. The former Liverpool player said, "I was convinced he would go to a club like Milan or Juventus. Perhaps his salary demands caused some clubs to step back."
CARRAGHER: HE CARES A LOT ABOUT THE NUMBERS
Touching on Salah's career goals and individual performance, Carragher said that the Egyptian footballer carries a competitive character similar to Cristiano Ronaldo. Carragher assessed, "I don't know him personally, I've never spoken to him. But isn't he like Ronaldo? He is extremely ambitious and the numbers are very important to him. He can reach those numbers in Turkey as well."
Emphasizing that he thought Salah would continue his career at a more prestigious club, Carragher stated that if the player were to lower his salary expectations, different options could emerge. Noting that clubs like Milan or Juventus offer European competitions and stages like the San Siro, Carragher said that seeing Salah in Turkey gives him the impression that he is "at a better level than this."
