Following the crisis surrounding the Central Referee Committee (MHK) at the Turkish Football Federation, a temporary solution has been implemented for the referee appointments for the matches to be played in the Süper Lig this weekend. Accordingly, it was reported that Anthony Taylor determined the Süper Lig referees for the 7th week.
The MHK crisis, which emerged during the international break, deepened after the arrest and subsequent resignation of MHK President Ferhat Gündoğdu. As the new MHK president and the structure of the committee remained unclear, the question of how referee and observer appointments in the leagues would be handled came to the fore.
In a previous statement by the TFF, it was stated that the 5-member former MHK, chaired by Hikmet Öksüzoğlu, would only play a role in referee assignments for Ziraat Turkish Cup matches. However, a separate interim formula was created for the Süper Lig and the Trendyol 1st League.
In a statement made by the federation on Wednesday, it was noted that the appointments in the Süper Lig were made by Anthony Taylor, while the process regarding the Trendyol 1st League referees was evaluated by Talent & Mentor (T&M) Program Coordinator Alan Snoddy.
There is a statutory obstacle preventing Taylor from officially serving on the MHK. Article 43 of the TFF Statutes states that committee members must be selected from among individuals who have retired from active refereeing at least one year prior to the date of appointment. It was stated that Anthony Taylor does not meet this requirement because he retired from refereeing only recently.
It was also noted that the English referee received support from the current MHK members regarding the referee pool in Turkey. It was learned that Taylor requested information by saying, "I do not know the referees fully yet. Could you provide me with information regarding this?"
