TFF rejects Beşiktaş's application

A new development has occurred regarding the foreign player regulation that will come into effect in the Trendyol Super Lig next season. The Beşiktaş management submitted an official application to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) requesting a re-evaluation of the number of foreign players that can be included in team squads.

The Black Eagles' application included a proposal to switch from the 10+4 rule, which is planned to start in the 2026/27 season and allows for 10 foreign players plus 4 young foreign players in the squad, to a 10+5 format. This proposal received support from many other clubs in the Super Lig besides Beşiktaş.

According to a report by HT Spor, the TFF gave a negative response to Beşiktaş and the supporting clubs after evaluating the proposal. It was reported that the federation does not intend to relax the current rule due to its determination to reduce the foreign player quota.

FOREIGN PLAYER LIMITATION IN THE SUPER LIG

According to the current practice, Super Lig teams have the right to have 14 foreign players on their squads. While there is no age limit for 12 of these 14 players, at least 2 players are required to have been born on or after January 1, 2003.

The system will change starting from the new season. According to the new rule that will begin in the 2026/27 season, clubs will be able to have a maximum of 10 foreign players in their squads without any age restrictions. In addition to this, at least 4 foreign players will be required to have been born on or after January 1, 2004.
