TFF releases VAR records for Week 9 of the Süper Lig

The TFF has shared the audio and video records of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for 2 matches played in the 9th week of the Süper Lig on its YouTube account. The matches included in the video and the decisions made are as follows:

- In the 9th minute of the Kayserispor - Samsunspor match, after an attack by the visiting team, the ball went out of play, and referee Ümit Öztürk received a ‘potential penalty, on-field review’ recommendation from the VAR. The conversation was as follows:

VAR: "Referee, it deflects off his own foot, but I am showing you now that it hits his arm after the deflection."

Ümit Öztürk: "I see what you are saying, but for me, this is not a handball. The player is blocking the incoming ball, he is playing it. Because his left leg is extended, his left arm is naturally extended as well. Because he hits the ball this way, this arm is open. If you notice, the direction of the ball changes very clearly. The ball turns, it reaches a point where it would turn toward his own goal."

VAR: "Referee, the decision is yours."

Returning to the pitch, Öztürk signaled 'no penalty' and allowed the match to continue from where it left off.

- In the 19th minute of the Fenerbahçe - Fatih Karagümrük match, Dorgeles Nene fell to the ground while entering the penalty area with a dribble. Referee Ali Şansalan signaled for a corner, indicating no penalty. Following the VAR's ‘potential penalty, on-field review’ recommendation, Şansalan went to the sideline.

After watching the replay of the incident, Şansalan commented, "I saw it. Erkan, there is clear contact with his foot in an uncontrolled manner as the player is falling. I saw it after he made the dribble, is Balkovec not number 29?" After the VAR confirmed, "That is correct," Ali Şansalan returned to the pitch, pointed to the penalty spot in favor of the yellow-navies, and issued a yellow card to Balkovec.
