TFF statement on illegal betting and match-fixing
A new phase has been reached in the illegal betting and match-fixing investigations that have shaken the agenda of Turkish football. It has been learned that the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has requested the identities of approximately 2,000 club officials found to have engaged in betting over the last 5 years from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The TFF also responded to allegations regarding the 'abolition of relegation'.
Significant developments are taking place regarding the illegal betting and match-fixing investigations that have recently come to the fore in Turkish football. It has emerged that, as part of the investigations conducted by the Turkish Football Federation, a wide-ranging request for information regarding club presidents and officials has been made.
Speaking to HT Spor, TFF officials made a statement regarding the allegations that have sparked public debate, such as the 'abolition of relegation' and 'not registering the leagues in their current state'.
'THE ABOLITION OF RELEGATION IS NOT ON OUR AGENDA'
Federation sources stated that such a topic is not on their agenda.
In their statement, TFF officials said, 'A topic such as the abolition of relegation is not on our agenda. We are trying to clean up Turkish football. Such a decision would take us backward.'
INFORMATION REQUEST FOR 2,000 OFFICIALS
While it was noted that the scope of the investigations has been expanded, it was learned that the TFF has requested the identity information of club presidents and officials found to have engaged in betting within the last 5 years from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
According to the information obtained, the requested list covers a total of 139 clubs competing in the Süper Lig, 1st League, 2nd League, and 3rd League.
It was stated that the information regarding more than 2,000 officials is expected to be delivered to the Turkish Football Federation tomorrow.
It was noted that the federation will also request detailed transaction records concerning the individuals identified as having placed bets from illegal betting sites.
