National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez has bid farewell to the WTA 1000 Canadian Open Tennis Tournament in the second round. World number 52 Sönmez left the court defeated against Greek player Maria Sakkari.
Sakkari, ranked 33rd in the world, won the match 2-0 with sets of 6-3 and 6-2. With this result, Sönmez's journey in the tournament ended in the second round.
Zeynep Sönmez had advanced to the second round by defeating local favorite Rebecca Marino in the first round of the tournament.
