35th Munich Turkish Film Days begin

The Munich Turkish Film Days is preparing to open its curtains for the 35th time. At the festival, where Müjde Ar will receive a lifetime achievement award, Gökmen Ulu's documentary 'Communist Osman' will also be screened.

The 35th Munich Turkish Film Days are beginning. The event features a selection of independent art films prepared by experienced producers and directors from Turkey, consisting of nine feature films, eight documentaries, and ten short films.

The cinematic journey at the festival will start in Istanbul, extend to the Aegean, pass through Central Anatolia, and continue toward the east of the country.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR MÜJDE AR

The festival will open with a restored version of the Yeşilçam classic, "Şalvar Davası" (The Trousers Case).

The 1983 film, directed by Kartal Tibet, tells the story of women rebelling against the macho men of a village and starred Müjde Ar and Şener Şen.

Following the film screening, a lifetime achievement and honor award will be presented to Müjde Ar, one of the iconic actresses of Turkish cinema, who is celebrating her 50th year in the arts.

'COMMUNIST OSMAN' IN MUNICH

On the second day of the festival, Thursday, April 18, at 19:00, the documentary "Communist Osman", which recounts the journey of Osman Özgüven, the former mayor of Dikili, İzmir, who pursued his political life along the axis of SODEP, SHP, and CHP, and his comrades, will be screened.

Following the screening of the documentary, which depicts the struggle for labor, democracy, and peace led by Osman Özgüven and his comrades—who pioneered social municipalism by carrying out a local revolution in Turkey—Director Gökmen Ulu and one of the witnesses of that era, Ercan Karakaş, will answer questions from the audience.

The festival will continue with screenings of the films "Karganın Uykusu" (The Crow's Sleep) by Tunahan Kurt, "Ela ile Hilmi ve Ali" (Ela and Hilmi and Ali) by Ziya Demirel, "Cam Perde" (Glass Curtain) by Fikret Reyhan, "Rodakis’i Ararken" (Searching for Rodakis) by Kerem Soyyılmaz, "Son Hasat" (The Last Harvest) by Erdem Şenocak, "Son Noktada" (At the Last Point) by Katja Bürkle, and "En Uzun Gece" (The Longest Night) by Can Merdan Doğan.
