Femicide in Adana: Man kills wife during divorce proceedings in her sleep
40-year-old Hatice Mine Kocamaz has lost her life after being shot in the head with a handgun while she slept by her husband, from whom she was in the process of divorcing, in Adana.
In the Kışla neighborhood of Adana's Yüreğir district, 40-year-old Hatice Mine Kocamaz was killed at home with a firearm by her husband, H.K., from whom she was in the process of divorcing.
It was learned that H.K. had been trying to change his wife's decision to divorce, but was unsuccessful. Following this, H.K. covered Hatice Mine Kocamaz's face with a pillow while she was sleeping and then shot her in the head with a handgun.
Upon reports from neighbors who heard the gunshots, health and police teams were dispatched to the address. Checks by the medical teams confirmed that Hatice Mine Kocamaz had passed away. The suspect, H.K., fled the house after the attack.
After police teams completed their investigation at the scene, Kocamaz's body was taken to the Adana Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for an autopsy.
The Murder Bureau of the Adana Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch launched an operation to apprehend the suspect. Examining City Security Management System (KGYS) records and security cameras in the vicinity, the teams determined H.K.'s escape route. As a result of technical and physical surveillance, the suspect was caught and taken into custody within approximately 30 minutes of the murder. H.K. was taken to the police station for processing.
