Difficult period in fuel supply in Russia: Priority regions announced
As part of the measures taken due to the fuel bottleneck in Russia, priority in supply is being given to the agricultural and northern regions in particular.
Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Pavel Sorokin stated that there are difficulties in the country's fuel market, but the situation is being managed by the authorities. Sorokin answered questions from members of the press following a coordination meeting held in Moscow under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
Pointing to the importance of fuel access for the agricultural sector and northern regions, including Siberia and the Far East, Sorokin stated that the necessary additional fuel quantities have been determined and planned so that citizens and local economies are not negatively affected.
"The situation is currently completely under control. We know clearly which regions are experiencing difficulties and we are solving the problems quickly. No one is saying the situation is easy, but thanks to the active work of all parties, we are maintaining control," he said.
According to the information provided by Sorokin, a comprehensive strategy is being implemented to solve the problem in question, rather than just individual steps. Increasing production capacity, activating alternative supply routes, accelerating delivery processes, and prioritizing fuel transportation in logistics are among these measures.
Due to the recent drone attacks by Ukraine on refineries in Russia, many facilities have had to be taken for unscheduled maintenance; restrictions have also been placed on fuel sales in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and some other cities.
On the other hand, the Russian administration had resorted to temporarily banning the export of gasoline and diesel. Officials state that various interventions will continue in order to protect supply in the market and prevent disruptions in domestic consumption.
