EU leadership to meet with US President Biden

The European Council announced that a US-EU Summit will be held at the White House on October 20, with the participation of US President Biden, European Council President Charles Michel, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The statement noted that the leaders will evaluate cooperation between the EU and the US, support to be provided to Ukraine, and necessary actions regarding Russia.

Pointing out that efforts to establish secure and resilient supply chains and accelerate the global clean energy economy will also be discussed, the statement indicated that cooperation between the EU and the US on critical and emerging technologies, including digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence, will be addressed.

The statement emphasized that joint steps to increase economic resilience and address challenges will be reviewed.

The previous EU-US Summit was held in Brussels in June 2021, where the trade dispute between the EU and the US regarding Airbus-Boeing subsidies was resolved.

In October 2021, the parties found a solution to the 3-year-old steel and aluminum tariff dispute and began working together on a new global sustainable steel arrangement.
