Warning to Israel from former President Obama: 'Israel is not only exacerbating the humanitarian crisis, it is hardening it'
Former US President Barack Obama warned regarding the Palestine-Israel conflict that an Israeli military strategy that ignores threats to civilians could ultimately backfire.
Former US President Barack Obama, in a statement made via the Medium platform, stated that Israel has a "right to self-defense," but added, "But the world is watching closely. An Israeli military strategy that ignores the human costs could ultimately backfire."
Pointing out that thousands of Palestinians have lost their lives in the bombardments on Gaza, Obama shared the view that "Many of them were children. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes."
Criticizing the Israeli government's Gaza policy, Obama noted the following:
"The Israeli government’s decision to cut off food, water, and electricity to the besieged civilian population not only threatens to worsen the growing humanitarian crisis, but it could also further harden Palestinian attitudes for generations to come, erode global support for Israel, play into the hands of Israel’s enemies, and undermine long-term efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region."
