The French Presidency announced that it has mobilized its military resources in the Middle East in response to the 'Iranian threat.' In its statement, the French government also said that the UN Security Council would meet 'urgently' at France's request.

Following an emergency security cabinet meeting held last night to discuss regional escalation, the French Presidency stated, 'France, which remains committed to Israel's security, has mobilized its military resources in the Middle East today against the Iranian threat.'

Iran stated early Wednesday that its missile attack on Israel had concluded, 'provided there is no further provocation.' Following growing fears of a wider war in the region, Israel and the US had vowed to respond to Tehran's attack.

No details were provided regarding how much additional military presence was sent to the region.

The French military operates in various parts of the world, particularly in Africa. France, which also maintains troops in the Middle East, had previously participated in active military operations against ISIS.

FRANCE AND THE US SEEK A DIPLOMATIC SOLUTION

According to a statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot spoke with his US counterpart Antony Blinken to coordinate diplomatic efforts.

Paris and Washington had attempted to secure a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon just hours before Israel launched the airstrikes that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah last week.

UN SECURITY COUNCIL TO MEET

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the UN Security Council would meet on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the situation in the Middle East.

The French Presidency also stated that it would soon organize a conference to support Lebanon and requested that the Foreign Minister travel to the region to engage in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.

The presidential statement said, 'The President, who is attentive to the safety and protection of our citizens in Lebanon and the Middle East, has requested that all necessary measures be taken to assist them and, if necessary, to go to their aid.'
