French fighter jets thwart drone attack in Iraq
A drone attack targeting the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq was thwarted by French fighter jets.
While a ceasefire between the US and Iran continues, a drone attack was launched against Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq. French fighter jets, operating as part of the US-led coalition forces, destroyed 2 drones in the air, thwarting the attack.
In a statement regarding the attack, the KRG Counter-Terrorism Directorate stated that 2 bomb-laden drones were launched from Iranian territory toward Erbil at 17:04. The statement noted that the drones were destroyed in the air following the intervention of the fighter jets, and that there was no loss of life or material damage as a result of the attack.
Security sources reported that certain points belonging to the Kurdistan Toilers' Party, one of the Iranian opposition groups in the KRG, were targeted in the drone attack. Sources stated that the attack was carried out against the organization's positions in the Surdash region of Sulaymaniyah province.
