HTS leader Jolani: Drafting the constitution could take 3 years
Jolani, the leader of HTS, which took control in Syria following the collapse of the Baath regime, made striking statements. Jolani stated that organizing elections could take 4 years and drafting the constitution could take 3 years.
Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, the leader of the Al-Qaeda-linked Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which overthrew Bashar al-Assad's administration and seized power in Syria, made statements to Al Arabiya.
Jolani said, "The liberation of Syria will ensure the security of the region, the Gulf, and Syria for the next 50 years."
Stating that drafting a draft constitution in Syria could take 3 years, Jolani expressed that "the administration aims to establish a permanent framework."
'IT COULD TAKE 4 YEARS'
Speaking about the elections, Jolani stated that organizing elections in Syria could take 4 years. The HTS leader said, "a comprehensive census must be conducted for a legitimate election."
Stating that negotiations with the SDF are ongoing to resolve the crisis in northeastern Syria, Jolani used the expression, "We will not allow Syria to be a launchpad for PKK attacks."
Noting that Kurds are an inseparable part of Syria, Jolani said that the Syrian Ministry of Defense plans to incorporate Kurdish forces into its own ranks.
In his statement, Jolani claimed that the dissolution of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham would be announced at the National Dialogue Conference.
