Iran war leads to resignation in US administration
National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent has announced his resignation, criticizing the administration's Iran policy in harsh terms.
In his statement regarding his resignation, Joe Kent stated that he made this decision after a long evaluation process. Emphasizing that the primary reason behind his decision was ethical concerns, Kent stated, "I cannot support the ongoing war in Iran because my conscience does not allow it."
In a striking statement regarding the justifications for the operation, Kent argued that Iran does not pose an immediate threat to the US. Claiming that this war began due to external pressures rather than national interests, Kent took a clear stance against the White House's war strategy, saying, "It is clear that we started this war because of the pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby."
The full text of Kent's resignation letter:
"President Trump,
After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot conscientiously support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran did not pose an imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war because of pressure from Israel and the powerful American lobby.
I support the values and foreign policies you advocated in your 2016, 2020, and 2024 election campaigns and implemented during your first term. By June 2025, you understood that wars in the Middle East were a trap that deprived America of the precious lives of our patriots and drained our nation's wealth and prosperity.
In your first administration, you understood better than modern presidents how to use military force decisively without dragging us into endless wars. You demonstrated this by killing Qasem Soleimani and defeating ISIS.
Early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media conducted a disinformation campaign that completely undermined your 'America First' platform and sowed pro-war sentiment to encourage a war with Iran. This echo chamber was used to make you believe that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States and that there was a clear path to a quick victory if you attacked now. This is a lie and the same tactic the Israelis used to drag us into the disastrous Iraq War, which cost the lives of thousands of our nation's best men and women. We cannot make this mistake again.
As an 11-time combat veteran and a Gold Star husband who lost my beloved wife Shannon in a war fabricated by Israel, I cannot support sending the next generation to fight and die in a war that provides no benefit to the American people and does not justify the cost of American lives.
I ask you to consider what we are doing in Iran and who we are doing it for. It is time to take bold steps. You can change course and chart a new path for our nation, or you can allow us to slide further into decline and chaos. The cards are in your hands.
It has been an honor to serve in your administration and to serve our great nation."
