Israel conducts drone strike in southern Lebanon despite ceasefire
While peace negotiations continue in Rome, an Israeli drone strike in Tebnine resulted in one civilian death and 11 injuries.
As the seventh round of ceasefire talks continues in Rome, the Israeli military has persisted with its attacks on the southern region of Lebanon. One person was killed and 11 civilians were injured in a drone strike in the town of Tebnine, located in the Nabatieh district. The attack targeted the funeral prayer area at a cemetery.
The strikes were not limited to Tebnine. Throughout the day, the Israeli military also conducted both air and artillery strikes on the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district. Israel also announced the launch of new operations in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon has lost control over many residential areas in the south of the country following the intense attacks launched by Israel on March 2. The number of people displaced by the conflict has exceeded 1 million. The Lebanese government states that this extraordinary migration movement is particularly affecting the civilian population.
Regarding the ceasefire, United States President Donald Trump announced on April 24 that the 10-day temporary ceasefire, which went into effect on April 17, had been extended for another three weeks. Following negotiations, which entered their third round under U.S. mediation, it was decided to extend the ceasefire for an additional 45 days starting from May 17.
Despite these diplomatic initiatives, it appears that the clashes have not been completely brought to an end. Although a framework agreement was reached between Israel and Lebanon on June 26 as a result of the fifth round of direct contacts held in Washington, a peaceful environment has not yet been established in the region.
According to the latest data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the death toll from Israeli attacks in the country since March 2 has risen to 4,333.
