The number of workers who lost their lives in a collapse at a gold mine operating near the village of Zamboye, close to the border of the Central African Republic and Cameroon, has risen to 107.

According to information reflected in the national press, search and rescue teams were dispatched to the region following the collapse at the mine, which was operated using traditional methods. As a result of the efforts carried out by the teams and local residents, the lifeless bodies of 107 workers have been recovered so far.

While it is stated that a large number of miners are still trapped under the rubble, it was reported that search and rescue operations at the mining site are ongoing.

Central African Republic Government Spokesperson Evariste Ngamana expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Ngamana announced that authorities are continuing their efforts to provide assistance to those affected by the incident.

It is known that collapses occur frequently in the country due to the lack of safety measures in unregulated gold mines.
