Mitsotakis on Turkey: 'Exaggerated scenarios in neighborly relations are exhausting'

In a television interview, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his discomfort with the exaggerated military expectations and speculations frequently encountered in both Turkish and Greek media. Mitsotakis stated, "Let us stick to the reality of geography. We are condemned to live side by side. It is impossible for this to change."

Responding to questions about current events on a television channel, Mitsotakis was asked for his assessment regarding potential moves by Turkey, based on reports that "Turkey will pass a law regarding the Blue Homeland." Speaking cautiously on the matter, Mitsotakis said, "I do not know what Turkey will do. I know that we have a response to all of Turkey's possible moves. Let us not speak based on reports leaked to newspapers. Because there were reports claiming with certainty that this thing you mentioned would happen almost in June. I do not see anything yet."

The Greek Prime Minister, who noted that there has been an increase in assessments in the press recently that analyze Turkey's potential military steps and their impact in an exaggerated manner using maps, reacted to the discussions in the media with the expression, "I am tired of seeing analysts with maps showing circles of where that missile could reach. These are not helpful."

Mitsotakis emphasized that current conditions impose a common future on the people of both countries, saying, "There is exaggeration in journalism. This exists both in our country and in Turkey. Let us stick to the reality of geography. We are condemned to live side by side. It is impossible for this to change."

The Greek leader stated that the Turkish and Greek peoples desire to build better relations, and that existing problems should not lead to further tension or the use of dramatic language, advocating for issues to be addressed through peaceful means.
