Palestinian Journalists Syndicate announces: There are 44 Palestinian journalists detained in Israeli prisons

In a written statement issued by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, it was stated that 41 journalists have been detained since October 7, and 12 of them were released after varying periods of detention.

The statement noted that with the continued detention of 29 journalists, as well as 15 journalists who were arrested before October 7, a total of 44 media members are being held in Israeli prisons under the "administrative detention" practice.

The "administrative detention" practice means that Israel detains Palestinians in the occupied territories without leveling any charges against them.

Palestinians can be imprisoned for up to 6 months without being able to learn the charges against them and being deprived of the right to defend themselves.

After this period, a Palestinian who is referred to a military court but remains unaware of the charges can have their detention period extended repeatedly for up to 5 years.

In a statement on November 25, the Syndicate had announced that 70 journalists had lost their lives following Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7.
