Putin praises Trump for 'historic event'

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a press conference in Tajikistan, where he was attending the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Summit.

During the press conference, which lasted approximately half an hour, Putin answered journalists' questions about the global agenda and made significant statements regarding the policies of US President Donald Trump.

Evaluating the Gaza Plan, which aims to end the war between Israel and Hamas and establish a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Putin stated, "Our participation in the peace process may be necessary. Russia has something to offer to solve the problem in Gaza. Russia may have proposals to resolve any setbacks that may arise during the implementation of the reached agreements."

When reminded by journalists of Trump's remarks that Russia supports them regarding the Gaza Plan, Putin said, "The main issue is the establishment of a Palestinian state. I have not examined the plan in detail. However, it is envisioned that the administration in Gaza will be transferred to Palestine over time and a peacekeeping force will be established to ensure security. The situation in the Middle East is very striking. If Trump can implement the plan he is striving for and trying to realize, it would be a historic achievement."

"TRUMP IS SINCERELY DETERMINED TO SOLVE THE CRISIS IN UKRAINE"

Responding to a question about whether US President Donald Trump deserves to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, Putin said, "It is not for me to say whether the US President deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, but Trump is doing a lot to solve crises that have been going on for years. I believe that Trump is determined and sincere about solving the crisis in Ukraine. He is successful in some areas and not in others, but he is striving to solve difficult crises."

Answering a question about whether the Nobel Peace Prize committee awards the prize fairly, Putin said, "The decisions of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee have largely damaged the credibility of the award."

"AN EMOTIONAL CRISIS OCCURRED"

Addressing the crisis between Russia and Azerbaijan following the downing of an Azerbaijani AZAL passenger plane, the Russian leader said, "I cannot say that there is a full-blown crisis between our countries. If there were a deep crisis, we would not see growth in trade and economic relations. We experienced an emotional crisis. Because we were faced with a difficult and tragic event. I think we have closed this chapter, that we will move forward, that we will continue our contacts without giving rise to complexes, and that we will realize the truly important plans that both countries have in logistics, industrial cooperation, and also in the humanitarian field. Therefore, we needed to resolve this issue calmly. We needed time to resolve this. We had to conduct very complex technical investigations." Putin also added that technical investigations into the downed passenger plane are still ongoing.
