Reaction from the Council on American-Islamic Relations to Trump

In a written statement, the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the US drew attention to Stefanik's stance against freedom of expression and human rights.

The statement said, "While we disagree with Representative Stefanik's appointment as UN ambassador given her hostility to free speech and human rights, at least we will be rid of the posturing and hypocrisy of President (Joe) Biden's UN team, which used the international body to defend the human rights of Ukrainians while trampling on the human rights of Palestinians."

On the other hand, the statement noted that the decision not to give any role to former UN Permanent Representative Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was a "promising step in the right direction," and called on Trump to appoint foreign policy officials who will respect international law and prioritize US interests beyond the interests of foreign countries, including the Israeli government.

Referring to the Biden administration, the statement used the phrase, "This administration wants to drag our country into a war with Iran and spend more of US taxpayers' money on the genocidal war in Gaza."

According to reports in the US press, it had been stated that Trump, who was elected as the 47th President of the US, had chosen House Representative Stefanik as the Permanent Representative to the UN.

Trump also announced in a post on his social media account, Truth Social, that he would not invite Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo to the new administration.

40-year-old Stefanik, a member of the House of Representatives, has long been known as one of Trump's most loyal allies in the House. Stefanik was among the names seen as a potential vice president for Trump.

In Congress, Stefanik had aggressively questioned university presidents, particularly during hearings regarding student protests on campuses, and had come to the fore with her pro-Israel statements.
