Tension between Netanyahu and Defense Minister: Is his power in jeopardy?

12PUNTO FOREIGN NEWS

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant recently traveled to the US without Prime Minister Netanyahu's knowledge, leading to claims that there are disagreements between the two and that Gallant could 'take action against Netanyahu.' Upon returning to Israel, Gallant attended a meeting with Netanyahu, where he reportedly had a 'high-tension' argument with the Israeli Prime Minister over the issue of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

According to a report by Israel's Channel 12, Gallant criticized Netanyahu during the meeting regarding his stance. Netanyahu, in turn, accused Gallant of making political assessments, responding, “I don't want to hear anything about the Palestinian Authority.”

IS GALLANT CHALLENGING NETANYAHU FOR LEADERSHIP?

Netanyahu, who had previously made statements regarding the future of Gaza, had expressed that he rejects the Palestinian Authority in the region.

International media outlets have reported that there are 'disagreements between the US and Netanyahu regarding the course of the war, civilian casualties, and the political/demographic future of Gaza.' Amid these developments, Defense Minister Gallant traveled to the US, and it was alleged that Prime Minister Netanyahu was unaware that his minister was in another country.

Reports in the US media suggest that Gallant could become a political rival to Netanyahu and challenge him for the premiership.
