Trump: Ceasefire in Gaza is near
US President Trump shared information that a ceasefire in Gaza could be signed within the coming week.
US President Donald Trump, in a statement regarding the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, said, "We believe that a ceasefire can be achieved within the coming week." Trump stated that the US has sent a significant amount of food and humanitarian aid to the region, emphasizing that these efforts should also be supported by other countries.
Responding to reporters' questions during an event held in the Oval Office to celebrate the peace agreement signed between Congo and Rwanda, Trump said that progress has been made regarding a ceasefire in Gaza. "It's a question that's asked a lot, and I think we're very close. I just spoke with some people about it. We believe that a ceasefire will be achieved within the coming week. There is a terrible situation in Gaza," said Trump, expressing that the US administration is directly involved in the process.
"WE ARE HELPING"
The US President stated that his country has taken a leading role in humanitarian aid to Gaza, saying, "We are sending a lot of money and food aid there because we have to. Theoretically, we shouldn't be involved in this, but we are, because people are dying."
Trump also mentioned that some of the food aid was being stolen by bad actors, adding, "But we have a pretty good system in place right now."
"OTHER COUNTRIES MUST ALSO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY"
Emphasizing that people in Gaza are lining up for a single meal, Trump said, "We are watching these scenes. We are essentially the ones delivering the aid. But it is very bad that other countries are not helping. No one is doing what we are doing. I think this is a humanitarian duty." Stating, "We are working for Gaza, we are trying to solve this problem," Trump also called on the international community, saying that the burden of aid should be shared.
