Trump: Iran gave us a piece of paper
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Iran had made a proposal to the U.S. side, alleging that they received another offer from Iran after canceling the U.S. negotiating team's expected visit to Pakistan. Trump said, "Iran gave us a piece of paper, it should have been better. Interestingly, just 10 minutes after I canceled the trip, we received a much better piece of paper. Iran offered a lot, but it wasn't enough."
U.S. President Donald Trump made statements following the cancellation of meetings expected to be held in Pakistan between his Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and an Iranian delegation.
Responding to questions from members of the press, Trump claimed that they had received a proposal from the Tehran administration regarding negotiations between the parties. Stating that he found the proposal in question insufficient, the U.S. President said, "Iran gave us a piece of paper, it should have been better."
Claiming that they received another offer from Iran after canceling the U.S. negotiating team's visit to Pakistan, Trump stated, "Interestingly, the moment I canceled the trip, just 10 minutes later, we received a much better piece of paper." In his assessment of Iran's offers, Trump remarked, "Iran offered a lot, but it wasn't enough."
"They can call us whenever they want"
Trump said, "I will meet with whoever I need to meet with, but we don't need to wait 2 days, we don't need people to travel for 16-17 hours. We are not going to do it that way. We will reach an agreement over the phone; they can call us whenever they want. We hold all the cards, we have won everything."
When asked whether the ceasefire between the parties would be maintained, the U.S. President replied, "I haven't thought about it yet." In his remarks, Trump also reiterated his stance that they would not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons.
Continued claims of "division" within the Iranian leadership
Continuing his claims that there is a "division" within the Iranian administration, Trump said, "They are fighting with each other. There is a tremendous internal conflict. In many cases, they are fighting over leadership. I even think they are fighting not to be the leader because we have neutralized two levels of leadership."
