UK military buildup in the Strait of Hormuz

A meeting regarding the Strait of Hormuz, held with the participation of more than 40 countries under the leadership of the defense ministers of the UK and France, has concluded. UK Defence Secretary John Healey announced the UK's commitments to the multinational coalition aimed at ensuring security in the Strait of Hormuz during the summit, which was attended by defense ministers from over 40 countries via remote connection.

At the meeting, which was held via video conference and co-chaired by the UK and France, Healey announced that his country would allocate autonomous mine-hunting systems, Typhoon fighter jets, and the warship HMS Dragon to the mission. Stating that the Strait of Hormuz mission would become operational "when conditions permit," Healey said, "Together with our allies, this multinational mission will be defensive, independent, and reliable."

Healey announced that the UK would allocate 115 million pounds in funding for the initiative, which includes the provision of autonomous unmanned mine-hunting vessels, anti-drone systems, and unmanned speedboats.

In a statement released by the UK Ministry of Defence following the meeting, it was noted that the UK already has fighter jet squadrons and more than a thousand British personnel in the region as part of existing defense operations. Under the plan, it was stated that the air defense destroyer HMS Dragon, which is currently en route to the Middle East, would be "ready for any mission" aimed at ensuring the security of the strait.

France had previously deployed its aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the Red Sea and had emphasized on many occasions that this mission was "entirely defensive in nature."
