UN: Infectious diseases are on the rise in Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) provided information regarding the situation in Gaza in a statement on its X social media account.

The statement noted, "The World Health Organization has reported an increase in infectious diseases in Gaza, including suspected cases of diarrhea and Hepatitis A."

The statement, which indicated that UNRWA continues to provide healthcare services, emphasized that overcrowding in shelters where displaced Palestinians have taken refuge and limited hygiene conditions caused by forced displacement pose serious health risks.

Reiterating the call for a ceasefire in Gaza, the statement included the phrase, "We need a ceasefire now."

According to data from the Media Office of the government in Gaza, infectious diseases have been detected in 1 million 95 thousand Palestinians due to forced displacement in the Gaza Strip, while approximately 20 thousand cases of Hepatitis A have been recorded.

THEY WERE DISPLACED

Palestinians are frequently being forcibly displaced in the Gaza Strip, particularly in the city of Rafah, due to the expansion of the Israeli army's ground attacks.

The Israeli army launched a ground attack on the east of Rafah on May 7 and took control of the Palestinian side of the border crossing to Egypt.

The area occupied by the Israeli army includes the Rafah Border Crossing on the Egyptian border, which is the main entry point for humanitarian aid into Gaza and the only crossing point used by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to travel abroad.

Palestinian and international parties are calling for the opening of the Rafah Border Crossing to ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the region.
