UN statement on Gaza: Basic needs must be met!

United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric made statements regarding the problems being experienced in Gaza. 

Dujarric spoke to journalists at a press conference on the matter.

Conveying information he received from UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) officials on the ground, Dujarric noted that tens of thousands of people have been forcibly displaced following the Israeli military's "evacuation order."

Pointing out that these individuals have been displaced many times in the last 7 months, Dujarric said, "It is essential that the basic needs of civilians in Gaza are met."

Dujarric emphasized that those who wish to leave Gaza must be provided with sufficient time, a safe route, and a safe final destination.

AID CANNOT REACH MORE THAN 3 THOUSAND CHILDREN

Reminding that the Rafah and Kerem Shalom border crossings are closed, Dujarric warned, "This means we cannot bring in humanitarian aid. We also do not have access to the food supplies we need to deliver to more than 3 thousand children struggling with acute malnutrition. At the same time, there is no fuel."

Dujarric stated that according to a recent survey by UN Women, "there are 700 thousand women and girls in Gaza," and none of them have anywhere to go.

Reporting that "93 percent of women and girls do not feel safe in their homes or shelters," Dujarric stated that 80 percent of women are suffering from depression.
