US launches airstrikes on military targets in Iran
The United States has carried out a new military operation against Iran following recent tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Following the operation, sounds of explosions were heard in several cities across Iran.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced to the public that, with the approval of President Donald Trump, they have launched a new strike targeting Iran's military capabilities. According to CENTCOM, the objective of the operation is to further degrade the military assets of Iran, which is alleged to have carried out attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Immediately following the strikes, which were reported to have begun at 16:00 US time, reports emerged of explosion sounds rising from many cities in Iran. Iranian state television reported that major explosions occurred, particularly in the city of Sirik in Hormozgan province, as well as in the Chabahar and Konarak regions. The semi-official Fars News Agency also shared that similar explosion sounds were heard around Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island.
Additionally, it was learned that air defense systems were activated near the nuclear power plant in Iran's Bushehr province. Following these developments, no detailed official statement has been made by either side regarding casualties or the damage caused by the strikes as of yet.
