US President Trump's remarks on Hamas: 'If they don't do it, we will'

US President Donald Trump made statements regarding the agenda at a press conference held at the White House. Addressing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, Trump reminded that more than 70,000 people have been killed in the region and said that it is now time for peace. Emphasizing that the next part of the process will involve the disarmament of Hamas, Trump stated, "We'll see what happens; we'll see. The next subject will be the weapons. We want the weapons surrendered or destroyed, and they (Hamas) have agreed to that. If they don't do it, we will."

Responding to a question about whether the US military would be directly involved in the process in Gaza, Trump said, "We won't need to. We are already involved in this process. If we weren't involved, there would be no peace." Citing the attacks they carried out on Iran's nuclear facilities as the reason for this, Trump said, "If we hadn't destroyed Iran's nuclear capacity, this deal would never have happened for two reasons. Arab countries wouldn't have dared to do it because there was a very strong Iran at that time. It's not that strong anymore. What we did with Israel and the attacks that were carried out, if you examine them, helped them a lot. They will be the first to tell you that. Including the shooting down of thousands of drones targeting Israel. We shot down thousands of drones like target practice, and even the missiles heading to Israel," he said.

"HAMAS PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM IRAN"

Stating that the US will help Israel instead of getting involved in Gaza militarily, Trump assessed, "But there are other countries too. We have signed agreements with many countries. A large number of countries. Many of them have strong military capabilities. And there is no support for Hamas." Arguing that Hamas previously received support from Iran, Trump said, "But this time Iran said, 'Don't involve us in this.' Things didn't go well last time; because they used to get support from Iran. Now, Iran is trying to survive," he said.

Stating that he heard reports two weeks ago that Iran was trying to produce nuclear weapons, Trump shared that he told those around him, "Don't worry. There are many things they want to do before nuclear weapons." Arguing that the last thing Iran would want right now is a nuclear weapon, Trump said, "Their previous efforts didn't work. If they were to get close (to developing a nuclear weapon), that facility would be attacked and completely destroyed before they could succeed."
